What Platforms Is GTA 6 On? PS5 and Xbox Only

If you are asking what platforms GTA 6 is on, the confirmed answer is two families of consoles: PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Grand Theft Auto VI launches on both on November 19, 2026. It is not coming to PS4, Xbox One or Nintendo Switch, and a PC version has not been announced. This guide lays out what Rockstar has actually confirmed, what is only rumour, and what to do if you are on older hardware.

What platforms is GTA 6 on? The confirmed list

Rockstar's official Grand Theft Auto VI site lists PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with a "Coming November 19, 2026" banner and a pre-order button. PlayStation's GTA VI page confirms the same date for PS5 and PS5 Pro and describes the game as single-player with offline play supported. It also lists:

The release has slipped twice, from a 2025 window to May 26, 2026, and then to November 19, 2026. Our release date guide tracks the details, and the countdown shows the days remaining.

GTA 6 on PS4 and Xbox One

Searches for "GTA 6 PS4" are common, and the answer is no. The game is a current-generation title, and neither Rockstar nor PlayStation lists a PS4 or Xbox One version. PlayStation's page states that the game does not play on PS4. If you have an older console, your options are to upgrade or wait and see whether Rockstar ever announces anything different. There is no evidence of a last-generation version at the moment.

GTA 6 on Switch

"GTA 6 Switch" is another frequent search. Rockstar has not announced a Nintendo version of any kind, including for Switch 2, and none appears on the official site. Do not trust any listing that says otherwise.

What about PC?

This is the question that causes most confusion, so here is the careful version.

Wikipedia's GTA VI article also notes that no Windows release had been scheduled as of September 2026. In plain terms, if you are a PC player, assume the game will not be available on launch day and wait for Rockstar to say something. Our PC requirements article is based on expectation only and will be updated if Rockstar announces anything.

PS5 vs Xbox Series X|S: which is better for GTA 6?

Both console families get the game on the same day, so there is no timed exclusive on launch. PlayStation's page does not describe a performance difference, and neither does Rockstar. Rockstar's site does say the game "plays best on PlayStation 5", which is marketing language rather than a technical specification. The decision should come down to the console you already own, your friends, and your controller preference.

Reports cited on Wikipedia suggest the game runs at 30 frames per second on both consoles at launch. Treat that as reported rather than guaranteed until the game ships.

Digital, physical and preloading

Pre-orders opened on June 25, 2026. Prices are $79.99 / £69.99 / €79.99 for the Standard Edition and $99.99 / £89.99 / €99.99 for the Ultimate Edition, with the Vintage Vice City Pack as the pre-order bonus. Physical boxes reportedly contain a download code rather than a disc, and a preload is reported from November 12, 2026. See the price guide for more, and plan your storage before the preload window opens.

The game also does not need to be played online at all. It is presented as a single-player experience, and a GTA 6 online mode has not been confirmed. See our GTA 6 online article.

Why only current-generation consoles?

Rockstar has not explained its platform choices in detail, so the following is reasoning, not a quote. GTA VI is an enormous open-world game with a large amount of detail in its cities and crowds. Building it for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S lets the studio target one generation of hardware with fast SSD storage, rather than also fitting the game into the memory and storage limits of 2013-era consoles. GTA V's long life across three console generations shows how much work each extra platform adds, and Rockstar took years to bring it to PC and then to PS5 and Xbox Series.

That history also explains why PC fans are watching reports closely. GTA V's PC version came with a separate set of technical demands and a long wait. If GTA VI follows a similar path, the gap could again be well over a year, but that is a comparison, not a prediction from Rockstar.

What if you do not own a PS5 or Xbox Series console?

You have a few realistic options, none of which involve unofficial downloads:

A warning about "other platform" offers

Because demand is high, fake downloads for PC, Android, iOS and older consoles are circulating. A genuine release will be listed on Rockstar's own site and on the official PlayStation and Xbox stores. If a site offers a "GTA 6 APK" or a "PC download" today, it is not real.
