GTA 6 Cheats: Will Cheat Codes Exist? What We Know
Searches for GTA 6 cheats and GTA 6 cheat codes are climbing as the November 19, 2026 release gets closer. The honest answer today is short: Rockstar has not announced any cheat codes for Grand Theft Auto VI, and nobody outside the studio has a verified list. What we can do is look at how cheats worked across the series, work out what is realistic, and explain why many pages promising "working codes" before launch are not worth your time or your data.
The game is coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19, 2026. Nothing in this article is a code you can enter now, and any site that claims otherwise is either guessing or lying.
Are there GTA 6 cheat codes?
Not confirmed. Rockstar's official Grand Theft Auto VI site does not mention cheats, and the company has not discussed them in any announcement we have seen. It is reasonable to hope for them because the series has a long tradition of including them, but hope is not confirmation. Until the game is released and players test it, treat every "GTA 6 cheat list" as speculation.
A short history of cheats in Grand Theft Auto
Cheat codes have been part of the series for decades, though the method of entering them has changed.
The 3D era: typed words and button combos
In GTA III, Vice City and San Andreas, cheats were short codes. On PC you typed a word during play, and on consoles you entered a sequence of controller buttons. Famous examples include HESOYAM in San Andreas, which restored health and armour and gave the player cash, and tank-spawning codes in Vice City. These games encouraged playful experimentation, and many players learned the codes by heart.
GTA IV: phone numbers
GTA IV moved cheat entry into the game world. Players dialled specific phone numbers on the in-game mobile, a system that made cheating feel like part of the fiction. It also made codes easy to share, since a code was just a number.
GTA V: phone numbers, console combos and PC input
GTA V kept the idea of in-game phone cheats, using numbers that start with 1-999. Console players could also enter button combinations on the controller, and PC players typed words into a cheat console, which opens with the tilde key. Community guides to the full list show codes for health, weapons, vehicles and wanted-level changes.
Two well-known restrictions applied to GTA V cheats. First, activating a cheat disables trophies and achievements for that play session until you reload. Second, cheats are meant for single-player and do not work in GTA Online. Always check the current state of those rules in a trusted guide, because sources have not always agreed on individual codes, and some lists contain errors.
| Game | Typical cheat input | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| GTA III, Vice City, San Andreas | Typed words (PC), button combos (console) | Cheats were a big part of the fun |
| GTA IV | In-game phone numbers | Made cheating part of the world |
| GTA V | Phone numbers, console button combos, PC console | Trophies and achievements disabled when used |
| GTA VI | Not announced | Unknown |
What to realistically expect in GTA 6
These are expectations, not facts.
- Likely, but unconfirmed: Some form of single-player cheats. The series has included them for a long time, and the studio has kept them in recent games.
- Likely if they exist: A trade-off such as disabled achievements or trophies. Platform holders and Rockstar usually want those to reflect real play.
- Uncertain: The entry method. GTA VI has phones in its world, as the trailers showed, but we cannot say that cheats will use them.
- Unlikely: Cheats that work in a shared online mode. Rockstar has not confirmed any GTA 6 online mode, and cheats generally do not mix with multiplayer. See our GTA 6 online article.
Another thing to consider is that the game is console-only at launch. Console players have no keyboard console, so a button-combo or in-game phone method would be the natural fit. A PC version has not been announced; see our GTA 6 platforms guide.
Warning: pre-launch "GTA 6 cheats" sites are scams
This part matters more than any speculation. Big releases attract fraud, and GTA 6 is the biggest in years. Security researchers and journalists have already documented fake pre-orders, phishing pages and malware dressed up as GTA 6 content. Tom's Guide has published a warning about GTA 6 pre-order scams that steal user data and spread malware.
Be suspicious of anything that promises:
- "GTA 6 cheats" or "cheat codes" before the game is out. There is nothing to cheat in yet. A code list now is invented.
- "GTA 6 mods" or "trainers". A mod for an unreleased game cannot exist. A download is likely malware.
- "Free money" or "unlimited cash". Real in-game currency is not sold or given away by random websites.
- Anything asking for your Rockstar or platform password, a survey, or payment in cryptocurrency or gift cards.
The rule is simple. The only trustworthy sources for GTA 6 information are Rockstar's own channels and established outlets. If a site asks you to download a file or log in to see codes, close it. The game is not playable before November 19, 2026, so there is nothing legitimate to unlock early.
How to spot a fake cheat page
A few quick checks save a lot of trouble:
- Look at the date and the claims. A page that lists "confirmed" codes for a game that has not shipped is making them up.
- Check for pressure. Countdown timers, "limited slots" and "verify you are human by installing this" are classic scam tactics.
- Never run an unknown installer. Real cheat codes are typed in the game. They never require a program, a key generator or an app.
- Guard your accounts. Use a unique password for your Rockstar Social Club account and turn on two-step verification where it is offered.
If you have already entered credentials on a suspicious site, change that password immediately and review the account's recent activity.
Why cheats may matter less in a modern GTA
Cheat codes were originally a convenience for players who wanted a break from difficulty. Modern open-world design, with larger economies, online services and trophy systems, makes cheats a more complicated feature. GTA V proved that a modern Rockstar game can still include them, so there is precedent, but a studio could also choose to leave them out. Both outcomes are possible, which is why we treat the topic as an open question rather than a countdown to a code list.
What to do instead
- Read our GTA 6 money guide for realistic ideas on earning in-game cash the normal way.
- Check the GTA 6 release date page for the latest on launch timing.
- Revisit the cheats question after launch. Once players have the game, verified lists usually appear within days.

FAQ
Does GTA 6 have cheat codes?
Not confirmed. Rockstar has not announced any, and there is no verified list. The series has included cheats for decades, so they are plausible but not guaranteed.
How did cheats work in GTA V?
Through in-game phone numbers, controller button combinations on console, and a typed cheat console on PC. Using a cheat disables trophies and achievements for that session.
Can I use GTA 6 cheats before release?
No. The game is not out until November 19, 2026, so any pre-launch cheat code, mod or trainer is fake.
Will GTA 6 cheats work online?
Unknown. A GTA 6 online mode has not been confirmed, and in GTA V cheats do not work in GTA Online.
Are "free money" GTA 6 sites safe?
No. They are commonly used for phishing and malware. Never enter account details or download files from them.
